There was an obituary posted in the local paper, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, regarding a former school teacher, your mother, Barbara Mathes Anderson. Frederick C. Mathes, (Barbara's father) had six children: Henry Mathes, Frederick Valentine Mathes, (who was Harry George Mathes' father), Matilda, Otto, Frederick William (where I come from) and David. Frederick William Mathes had ten children, one being my dad Clifford Mathes. We lost track of the Harry George Mathes family and would love to hear from some of you. I note that you have a Reverend in the family. My sister, Dolores, and her husband Robert Schuring, were missionaries in Brazil for almost 30 years and are now still ministering in Pella, Iowa. They have seven children and multiple grandchildren who are also in the ministry. First of all, I express my deepest sympathy. Such a comfort though we have as Christians, that there is a special place in heaven waiting for our loved ones and that we can look forward to heaven ourselves! My mother is 94 and still able to be home and pretty much care for herself. We live next door in the country and "keep tabs" on her pretty much. Would love to hear from you .. my address is Rose Marie (Mathes) Briggs, 31548 547th Street, Chariton, Iowa 50049; phone 641-862-3351; email address email@example.com

Barbara was and will remain one of the most special people that ever entered my life! I taught during the time Barbara taught at the high school. She was also an art student of mine during several night courses and I always respected and was in awe of her never ending wonderment of the tiniest details in God's creations and always shared them with me. She was truly Heaven sent to this earth! God let us have her for many many blessed days, and Heaven needed her back again. For all that is goodness and gentleness in this world, Barbara posessed unlimited amounts. She also attended all of my plays that I directed and always searched me out to tell me how much she enjoyed them! Whenever I was in Barbara's presence, I always felt a serene calmness and I always realized that I was with someone very very special. I am very sad with her passing and I will miss her always but her love of life and her spirit will always remain! She will be missed but always remembered! She always said to me,....."My friend".........To her I will say.. "MY FRIEND"......thank you for the honor of knowing you! My life is so much better because you touched it." Sincerely, Lon Pugh

We were neighbors to Mrs. Anderson on Cherry Street, and enjoyed her so much. What a blessing she was to us and our boys. We enjoyed her drawings, poems, stories, gardening tips, and the encouragement she gave us. What a godly lady she was.

What a wonderful sweet woman. I remember her as a teacher in the local high school. More recently I recall meeting her almost every morning as I arrived at Van Allen School to begin my day as a 4th grade teacher. She was walking in front of the school on warm days. On winter days she would walk through the halls of the school, stopping to admire the children's art work or their stories that were hung for all to see! She was such a pleasant person with a warm smile! God bless your family.
